Transfer Certificate Information and Template
All private schools in Dubai are governed by the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which stipulates that parents of children transferring to Kent College Dubai need to present the school with a transfer certificate when transferring from another school in Dubai, or from an overseas school, or from a school in another Emirate. The only exception to this regulation is for children joining FS1, FS2 or Year 1 who have not already been enrolled in a Dubai school.
Please note that without the transfer certificate it will not be possible to legally register your child in school or with the Ministry of Education/KHDA.
The transfer certificate certifies your child’s enrollment details at the current school and is used by the KHDA to confirm year group (grade) placement. Your child’s current school creates the letter. KHDA requires paper transfer certificates for within-Dubai transfers.

Who needs a transfer certificate?
- All children moving from overseas or another Emirate entering Year 2 through Year 13
- All children transferring from other schools in Dubai, regardless of year group
Transfer Certificates are not required for children entering FS1, FS2 or Year 1 unless your child has already been enrolled at a school in Dubai.
Should you not provide us with a certificate and Emirates ID within four weeks of your child’s starting date, KHDA mandates that your child is not allowed to attend school and may fine parents. Transfer certificates are not obtained by KCD and are wholly the parents’ responsibility.
What should the transfer certificate include?
The below information is required to be typed on the previous school’s letterhead, signed by the Head of School/Principal, with a school stamp over the signature.
1) School Information: Curriculum, whether it is a 12-grade or 13-year system, term/semester dates.
2) Pupil Information: Full name and date of birth, date of leaving, and current or most recently completed grade/year group.
3) Status: Whether or not the child finished the year (“completed,” which must be accompanied by “passed and promoted” unless the child “failed” the year and must repeat; or, whether the child is leaving before the school year is finished (“incomplete”).
Is my child’s school 12-grade or 13-year?
This refers to the terminal year group/grade; so it stipulates whether the school system finishes at 12th Grade or Year 13. British curriculum schools are almost always 13 year; American, IB, Indian, Australian and most European countries are almost always 12 grades. Click here for equivalency tables.
